Remote work, for most, is the ultimate career goal. You can go anywhere you'd like, anytime, so long as you have access to your laptop and a decent WiFi connection. It is alluring, indeed, but it usually takes some time with skin in the game to be trusted with working remotely if you didn't land an already-remote position. If you're one of the lucky corporate soldiers who somehow made out like a WFH bandit, I envy you. It's the greatest power with the greatest responsibility—but not really…

With no skin in the game, higher-ups expect you to pay your dues. That typically takes the form of reporting in-office five days a week if you're new to the workforce. I am a firm believer in dipping your toes into what you haven't experienced yet, and office life is something everyone should experience at least once in their lives. It's a rite of passage, if you will.

In this next story, a new hire is upset that his boss works remotely, but he does not. The boss received approval years prior.
